Fluent Disc Sport is bringing its international course-design perspective to Genting Snow Park as the resort explores a new mountain disc golf destination.

Genting Snow Park, also known as Yunding, is the Zhangjiakou resort that hosted the freestyle skiing and snowboarding events of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. The venue was built for elite winter competition and now has an opportunity to extend that sporting legacy into a four-season mountain destination.

On 22 August, Fluent CEO and chief course designer Kevin Farley joined former Chinese national-team disc golfer Zhang Jingping for an on-site assessment of the property. At approximately 2,100 metres above sea level, Genting offers the dramatic vertical terrain, natural obstacles and expansive landscape needed to create mountain disc golf that is both technically demanding and memorable.

Designing with the mountain

Our approach begins with the land. Rather than forcing a conventional layout onto the site, we look for ways to use its existing contours, vegetation and elevation changes to create distinctive flight lines and meaningful strategic choices. At Genting, that means studying how uphill and downhill throws change effective distance, how fairways can move safely through the terrain, and where tees and targets can provide strong competitive play while remaining accessible to recreational visitors.

The assessment considered course routing, tee and fairway placement, difficulty progression, wayfinding and signage, player circulation, long-term maintenance, and the operational needs of both organised events and daily public play. Zhang Jingping contributed valuable local insight into the expectations of Chinese competitive players, new participants, families and group visitors.

A four-season Olympic legacy

Genting is already recognised internationally as an Olympic mountain sports venue. Disc golf can build on that identity beyond the winter season, serving tournaments, travelling players, families and first-time participants while making thoughtful use of the resort's existing natural assets.

We are pleased to contribute Fluent's course-planning expertise at this early stage. The strongest courses are built through careful site analysis, local knowledge and a clear understanding of how people will play, move through and maintain the property. Genting has the terrain and ambition to create a mountain disc golf experience with a distinct identity of its own.
