The Largest Disc Golf Courses in Canada 2024

Friday, Oct 4, 2024 1:25pm | Kevin Farley

I couldn't find a list of the Championship courses in Canada, and so I posed a question to the Canadian disc golf community asking what they felt were the largest courses in the country on Facebook in the Canadian Disc Golf Hub. It started a great discussion about the biggest and best courses in the country, and I'm pleased to be able to offer the first edition of the list, with 29 courses representing 8 provinces!!!

Before you get to downloading the list, I'll outline the criteria I used to ask the question:

  1. As far as the PDGA is concerned, in their course design docs, Championship is approx Par 67+ for 18 holes. That said, Hillcrest for instance is Par 66 and nobody is going to argue it's not a champ course, so we can take that with a grain of salt, we're not trying to be picky here.

  2. Champ courses are generally considered to be much bigger/longer than your average course, but there's no set minimum. Forested champ courses are going to be shorter than open ones. Realistically though, a ballpark of 8000' or more is the range we're likely looking for, but if there's something you feel belongs that's less, let's have it.

  3. To be a bit more inclusive, let's go for "Championship Length" rather than worrying about it being a well developed, trimmed, and finished course with all the requisite amenities. We can each be the judge of our personal lists whether it fits, but highly finished courses should get some mention at least!

My goal was to not be a gatekeeper, better to err on the side of letting too many in than get into a debate about what constitutes a top course. That's something that would require a bigger discussion with the rest of the design community (something I do hope this helps to start)!

In the end, I lowered the criteria even further which left us with 29 courses. The final criteria I used were courses that were at least 7000' in length or Par 60 or higher. That leaves a lot of room to expand the list in the future, but I may, after discussion with other peers in the design community, tighten that up a bit or find other ways to recognize the courses that really do fall into the "Championship" category. For now, it's a fair start!

Without further ado, please enjoy this (non-exhaustive) list of the largest disc golf courses in Canada!
